Garmin Connect is a smart mobile application that allows you to conveniently view, track, analyze and share data collected on your Garmin Devices, particularly the Sports and Fitness Devices. This innovative software application connects to your Garmin Device via the WiFi Network. At times, it even facilitates Bluetooth Connection if both the Device and your Smartphone supports it. As such, when you connect and pair your Garmin Device with this tool on your mobile device. Then, the data on your device syncs with the application. In this way, you can easily view, track, analyze and share all the data. As a result, you get the maximum benefit and utility for your Device. However, at times, you may encounter an issue. Your device display, “There Was An Error Syncing With Garmin Connect”. Besides, Garmin Connect doesn’t show your recent activities/ data.
This error usually occurs when the automatic Sync feature tries to sync but is unable to authenticate the client’s password or username with apps on your device. Along with that, it happens due to OS Limitations issues, Computer’s issue, Connectivity issues, Garmin Connect Software issues, etc.
How to fix “There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect”?
Most of the times, this issue resolves on its own. Yet, it cannot be left without a proper fix. However, before you proceed for the troubleshooting, you must consider the following pre-requisites.
- Ensure that your Garmin Device is within the Bluetooth/ Hotspot range of your Mobile Device. In case of WiFi connectivity, both Garmin Device and Smartphone should be within the range of your WiFi Network.
- Bluetooth Feature should be active on your Garmin Device and your Smartphone.
Troubleshooting Steps
Wait And Try Again
In the very first place, you should wait for a few minutes. Thereafter, try to Sync your Device again with Garmin Connect. This can resolve the issue in case of temporary Connectivity or Server issues.
Restart Bluetooth on your Mobile Device
If the issue persists, then a simple “Turn Off and Turn On” method can help fix the issue.
- To begin with, go to the “Settings Application” on your Mobile Device.
- Now, tap on “Connected devices” > “Connection Preferences”.
- Finally, tap on “Bluetooth” to open the Bluetooth Settings.
- Here, you should tap on the “On/ Off” toggle button to turn it Off.
- Then, wait for 4-5 seconds.
- Thereafter, tap on the “On/ Off” toggle button once again to turn it On.
- After that, try to sync your device with Garmin Connect once again.
Restart The Garmin Connect Application
- First and foremost, close down the open Garmin Connect Application on your Mobile Device. Here, you must ensure that you completely shut down the application and is not working in the background.
- Now, wait for 2-3 seconds.
- Thereafter, once again launch the Garmin Connect Application.
- Then try to sync your device as this should fix the issue.
Restart The Garmin Device
- First of all, press the Power Button on your Garmin Device to turn it off.
- Now, wait for 2-3 seconds.
- Then, once again press the Power Button of your Garmin Device.
- However, in case if you have a rechargeable device like Vivosmart 3, Vivosport, Vivomove HR etc. that don’t have a Power button. Then, you should plug in the device into a USB Power Source by means of its Charging Cable. This will automatically restart the Device.
- As a result, it will turn on the device which should resolve the issue.
Restart Your Mobile Device
Even after trying all this, if the issue persists. Then, restart your smartphone. For this, you should simply press and hold its Power Button located on the left/ right side of the device. Once the device shuts down, release the Power Button and wait for 2-3 seconds. Thereafter, once again, press and hold the Power Button to turn it On.
Remove and Add Garmin Device

- Launch Garmin Connect on your Mobile.
- Tap on “Menu” or “More”.
- Scroll down and tap on “Garmin Devices”.
- Select the Garmin Device that you want to remove.
- Follow on-screen instructions to completely remove it.
- Go to “Bluetooth Settings/ Menu”.
- Tap on “Unpair’. It is located beside the Garmin Device that has to be removed.
- Restart your Smartphone.
Add Garmin Device
- Launch Garmin Connect on your Mobile and log in to your Garmin Account.
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Tap on “Menu” or “More”.
- Scroll down and tap on “Garmin Devices”.
- Tap on “Add”.
- Select “Product Category” > “Garmin Device”.
- Provide Personal Details when prompted. Then, tap “Next”.
- Look for the “Device Key” on your Garmin Device. Now, Press and Hold it. Wait till it displays “Pair” on its screen.
- Tap “Search For Device” on Garmin Connect.
- Note down the “6-digit Passcode” displayed on the screen of your Garmin Device.
- Enter this “Passcode” on Garmin Connect App when prompted.
- Verify that both Garmin Connect and Garmin Device has the same “Passcode”.
- Tap “OK”.
